Yacht charters from Devon. Plymouth, Brixham, Torquay and Dartmouth Hailing from the middle of Derbyshire, about as far from the sea as one can be in this country, I have vivid memories of Devon from the age of about 11 to 16 years, in the late 1950’s and early 60’s when we spent our holidays there as a family. I was amazed that Palm trees grew naturally in June when at home we were still covering outdoor plants in case there was a late frost! But there were and still are similarities between the two counties, the lush green hills and valleys, the slower pace of life in the countryside to name but a couple, but Devon has the sea! Devon, the home of so many famous boatyards, sadly mostly now gone, which have operated for centuries building the shipping to safeguard our shores from invaders. Happily those ancient boatyards have been replaced by others who make and operate boats and yachts for a far less aggressive purpose, leisure. Sailing, boating, yachting is part of what the Devon coast is about and there is an abundance of companies who offer yacht charter either by the day, weekend or weekly. Plymouth, Brixham, Torquay and Dartmouth seem to be the yacht charter capitals of the county and it is easy to arrange a European charter to start from one of those venues. Most of the companies offering yacht charter from a Devon location will be able to give you the choice of bareboat or skippered, or skippered with a full crew for a longer charter, all of which may depend on price, your sailing skill levels and qualifications.
