Yacht charter in the Solent, Bareboat or skippered charter The Solent is a stretch of sea, around.30 miles (50 km) long and between 3/4 to 5 miles (1.2-8 km) wide, separating the Isle of Wight from the mainland of Britain, on the south coast of England. It is thought to be the flooded valley of a river which once flowed east between what are now the Isle of Wight and the mainland of Hampshire and West Sussex. The Solent has an ease of access to the open sea There are a great many companies small and large who operate and offer sailing facilities in this area of one type or another from short cruises to full blown yacht charter holidays and experiences, team building, wreck diving to name but a few. The waters of the Eastern Solent are the area's most valuable asset and a great many take a delight in them, visitors and locals alike. The area has an abundance of small sailing clubs which makes it easier for the lucky locals to take up sailing and yachting from an early age. The area is blessed with an abundance of land based activities such as museums, theatres, cinemas and of course the shopping areas of Portsmouth & Gosport.
